The Universal Boring & Facing Head in focus is one from NAREX Ltd. under its popular VHU series. These heads have the ability to extend the cutter out a bit with each rotation automatically and alternatively referred to as Automatic boring heads. Preferred over a standard, manually adjusted boring head, VHU boring and facing head offers an auto-feed that can be automatically set to advance the boring tool laterally. This allows it to be used in a wide range of applications including boring, turning, recessing of small & large diameter holes, taper cutting, thread cutting. Also suitable for precision boring of cylindrical holes and for machining of external cylindrical surfaces. Further, it is too easy to interpolate the hole to get it roughed out using a VHU series Automatic Boring Heads. Additionally, it is possible to bore tapered tools and cut tapered threads when automatic crossfeed to the tool slide is combined with feed to the spindle of the respective machine. The available feed on the respective machine will determine the included angle of the taper. The sliding feed is adjustable in three or four grades and is stopped on the adjustable dog by the pin clutch. The rotary motion of the head gives in the feed. The feed is adjusted when the pin of the clutch is put in and the brake ring is held by means of the stop bar. Quick adjusting of the side is by screw whereas the worm with the scale is used for fine adjusting of precision boring (1DIV= slide movement of 0.05mm). These heads are delivered with primary accessories in a sturdy box for safe storage. However, the taper shanks are not part of primary accessories and can be ordered separately depending on the special application.
